Hongkong Post announced today (December 14) that selected philatelic products issued by the Macao Post and Telecommunications Bureau and the overseas postal administrations of Australia, Canada, Japan, Liechtenstein and New Zealand will be put on sale from December 16 (Thursday).

Every year, postal administrations around the world issue Christmas stamps that come in different shapes and forms to ring in the festivities with good wishes. Instead of depicting a Christian Christmas theme, Canada Post added fun to the design of festive stamps by showcasing portraits of three classic Christmas characters – Santa Claus, a reindeer and an elf. Continuing the tradition of issuing the Christmas Island Christmas stamp series, Australia Post’s new stamp issue features Santa Claus interacting with various types of island fauna, and taking a well-deserved break after delivering presents and enjoying the wonderful snorkelling opportunities in the island’s warm waters.

Anime enthusiasts have a collectible to look forward to – the souvenir sheet of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train” issued by Japan Post. The smash-hit Japanese manga series has swept across the world with its captivating storyline and top-notch visuals. The souvenir sheet contains 15 self-adhesive stamps featuring the scenes from the animated movie as well as the main characters. By scanning the QR code printed on the souvenir sheet during the period between December 6, 2021, and March 31, 2022, collectors will hear the voices of Tanjiro and other characters. The stock of the souvenir sheet for sale is 2 500 sheets. A maximum of two souvenir sheets can be purchased in each transaction on a first-come, first-served basis while stocks last.

The above philatelic products with limited quantities will be available for sale while stocks last only at the Hongkong Post online shopping mall ShopThruPost (shopthrupost.hongkongpost.hk) starting from 8am on December 16. Details of each product, the prices and the sales quotas are set out in the Appendix. ******************************************************************************************

To ride on the successful collaboration with the Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA) for the “Hong Kong Museums Collection” series last year, Hongkong Post will launch a special stamp issue and associated philatelic products with the theme “Hong Kong Museums Collection – 19th Century China Trade Paintings” on May 25 (Tuesday) with the HKMoA. This issue includes a set of six stamps and two stamp sheetlets, showcasing people’s lives and customs as well as the landscapes of Guangzhou and Hong Kong, where merchants converged in the 19th century, enabling stamp lovers to have a glimpse of these scenes in miniature.

The genre of China trade paintings emerged in Canton (present day Guangzhou), a city where foreign merchants converged in the 18th and 19th centuries. After noticing a demand for these paintings in the West, some painters began to set up studios and workshops creating paintings using Western art techniques. These paintings featured the local customs, lifestyle, landscapes and scenery, which attracted admirers in Europe and America. Large amounts of trade paintings were exported due to their huge popularity. In addition, Canton and Hong Kong were popular shopping paradises for travellers. All sorts of goods were sold on the shopping streets ranging from handicrafts and retail tea leaves to local products and alcohol. Trade paintings captured the thriving and diverse scenes of the economic market and consumer activities at the time, while the paintings themselves were also purchased frequently by visitors.

The first day cover features the art piece “Porcelain shop, Canton” on the $3.40 stamp. The porcelain shop is intricately illustrated against a pale green background, giving a sense of freshness and elegance. The two collector covers, which are not for sale separately but included exclusively in the collector pack, feature the art pieces “Queen’s Road looking east from Canton Bazaar” and “Production of ceramics: packing in barrels” on the $2 and $3.70 stamps respectively. The collector covers adopt a plain and simple design, spicing up a strong historical ambience that also helps to set off the stamp contents in bold colours, making them precious collectables not to be missed.

The most anticipated item is the collector pack, which comes with treasured contents. It not only includes a set of six stamps, a $10 stamp sheetlet, a $20 stamp sheetlet, a serviced first day cover and two serviced collector covers, but also shows the original paintings in their entirety. This allows stamp lovers to appreciate the delicacy of these masterpieces.

This set of special stamps and associated philatelic products, including a first day cover, mint stamps, stamp sheetlets, a presentation pack, a mini-pane, a collector pack, postage paid picture cards and serviced first day covers, will be on sale at post offices from May 25.

Information about this special stamp issue and associated philatelic products are available on the Hongkong Post Stamps website (stamps.hongkongpost.hk) and the Hongkong Post mobile app.

Hong Kong offers worldwide delicacies for foodies to savour. But to get a real taste of the food culture of the city, it is best to try a wide variety of local snacks. Hongkong Post will launch a set of six stamps and a stamp sheetlet on April 22 (Thursday), under the theme of “Local Snacks in Hong Kong”, featuring an array of the appetising favourites.

The set of special stamps depicts six traditional delicacies, golden and springy fishballs with a tangy taste; delicious candy and coconut wrap that is crunchy and aromatic; tasty stuffed three treasures with a slightly burnt fragrance; buttered pineapple bun with contrasting and unique flavours; mouth-watering stewed skewers that are fresh and juicy; and nutty, treacly and chewy peanut candies, which are popular among all generations. The stamp sheetlet showcases five other delectable local snacks, silky smooth steamed rice rolls with soy sauce, sweet paste, sesame sauce and chili sauce, sprinkled with sesame seeds; velvety tofu pudding with a strong soy aroma; maltose crackers with gummy maltose, not overly sweet, and crunchy crackers; soft and mushy steamed rice pudding with boiled red beans; and egg waffle, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside that leaves a strong aftertaste.

The stamp designer adopted a simple and realistic style in recreating the various delicacies on the stamps with bright and vivid colours. Moreover, the stamps and stamp sheetlet are specially printed with an embossing technique that creates a stunningly three-dimensional effect for the snacks, as if putting them close at hand, allowing viewers to feast one’s eyes on a veritable banquet of local delicacies.

Among the philatelic products in this issue, the most captivating must be the presentation pack, which is modelled on a pack of egg waffles. Unique and creative in appearance, the presentation pack is ingeniously designed with an element of a brown paper bag in a retro style, adding a touch of nostalgia. A collector card will also be launched at this time. The card is affixed with a set of six self-adhesive stamps. A fresh yet basic colour theme is used to highlight the exquisite stamp images, enabling everyone to recall these popular local snacks full of collective memories. In the mini-pane, two sets of stamps are arranged in a wavy design to create an aesthetically ordered pattern adorned with illustrations of a variety of nostalgic tableware and the iconic velvety smooth and fragrant Hong Kong-style milk tea, highlighting the theme of the stamp issue.

Starting from April 22, this set of special stamps and associated philatelic products: a first day cover, mint stamps, a stamp sheetlet, a mini-pane, a presentation pack, a collector card and serviced first day covers will be placed on sale at post offices.

Information about this special stamp issue and associated philatelic products are available on the Hongkong Post Stamps website (stamps.hongkongpost.hk) or the Hongkong Post mobile app.
