Channel 4’s Paralympic Winter Games trail gives viewers an insight into the world of a Paralympian

WEBWIRE

Channel 4’s trail to promote its coverage of the Beijing 2022 Paralympic Winter Games launches tonight (18.2.22) and puts viewers at the heart of the action.

Featuring ParalympicGB alpine skier Millie Knight, the film gives viewers a first-hand view of what it’s like hurtling down a ski slope at nearly 70mph.

But the trail goes a stage further and shows what it’s like skiing at such terrifying speeds with just five per cent vision which is exactly what Millie will be doing when she goes for Paralympic gold in Beijing.

Made by 4Creative, Channel 4’s multi award-winning in-house creative team, the film has been made with Millie’s guidance in order to try and replicate her vision as closely as possible when she is zooming towards the finish line.

4Creative’sExecutive Creative Director Lynsey Atkin said: “We’re all scared of something. Some of us would be rightly very scared of flying down a ski slope with severe visual impairment. Not Millie Knight, who is only afraid of snakes and glitter.

“We’re so grateful for Millie’s guidance in making this film, it’s helped us make it as realistic as possible to show viewers what she will be undertaking in Beijing.”

In the 40 second spot, which will premier during Gogglebox tonight (18.2.22), Millie reels off a list of seemingly mundane fears, including some of her own, set against footage of something most of us would really find terrifying – hurtling down a ski slope with five per cent vision.

The film then carries the caption: to be a Paralympian there’s got to be something wrong with you – a continuation from Channel 4’s campaign for last year’s Tokyo 2020 Summer Paralympic Games, provoking people to think again about the extraordinary levels of determination, commitment and skill of Paralympic athletes.

The trail will be available with subtitles and audio description for viewers who have those settings activated on their televisions.

Channel 4 has exclusive broadcast rights within the UK and its Beijing Paralympics coverage will be produced by Whisper and sponsored by Toyota.

Channel 4 and We Are Parable team up to support Black TV & Film Makers across the UK

WEBWIRE

Channel 4 has teamed up with award-winning organisation, We Are Parable to create a mentoring and training programme for 60 Black TV, filmmakers and content creators across the UK.

The new scheme Momentum, will be run in Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow and London as part of Channel 4’s drive to create new opportunities for Black people to progress in the film and TV sector, across the UK.

The 60 filmmakers will be paired with a mentor and offered one to one sessions over a six month period. Additionally, they will have access to masterclasses and discussions with top experts from across the industry including from Channel 4 and Film4 as well as Apple, Altitude, Park Circus, STX and many more. Those taking part will get help with everything from script development, financing and funding to collaborating, sales and even distribution as part of a comprehensive guide to what they should do next to advance their careers.

Channel 4 and We Are Parable first worked together on The Black to Front Project. Last September, Channel 4’s entire programming schedule was fronted by Black talent and contributors across all genres and advertisements for one day, with the aim of amplifying Black voices and talent in front of and behind the screen.

Momentum, which is funded by Channel 4’s training and development strategy 4Skills, is part of the important legacy of the ground-breaking Black to Front Project.

Channel 4 Creative Diversity lead Neila Butt says: “The Black to Front Project was a huge commitment and an industry first from Channel 4, and we are very proud of it. We always wanted it to have a strong legacy and for it to lead to significant commitments. We loved working with We Are Parable at the time so it’s great to be partnering with them again as we continue our work to nurture and support Black talent, especially across the nations and regions.”

Anthony Andrews, Co-founder and Creative Director at We Are Parable says: “We’re really excited to collaborate with Channel 4 on the new iteration of Momentum. Their commitment to supporting talent behind, as well as in front of the camera, has been evident especially with last year’s Black To Front Project. By providing us with the tools and networks to scale Momentum to a nationwide level, we’ve been able to support more Black Filmmakers than ever.”

Teanne Andrews, Co-founder and Director of Operations at We Are Parable says they have extended the Scheme due to the demand: “We had more than 300 applicants for Momentum, and it was important for us to help everyone who approached us even if they weren’t in the final selection. Therefore, we’ve made our masterclasses available to everyone who applied for the course, whether they were successful or not.”

Channel 4 is committed to delivering a step change in diverse representation across its own platforms and in the wider industry. It is the first broadcaster to ring-fence commissioning spend for ethnically diverse-led indies, and has guaranteed a commission from each genre team for at least one new show with ethnically diverse talent and/or ethnically-diverse stories at its heart every year.

We Are Parable also worked with Film 4 last year on the launch of the short film series Foresight, an anthology that explores alternate realities through the lens of five Black British directors which will be shown on All 4 and Film4  later this year.

Channel 4’s new national HQ in Leeds as well as Creative Hubs in Bristol and Glasgow are core to its 4 All the UK strategy to attract and develop talent from across the UK, both on and off screen.

And We’re Live: WBC LIVE Channel Powered by VIVE Network is Officially On Air

WBC LIVE Channel Lineup

WBC LIVE Channel Lineup

KENSINGTON, U.K.Sept. 15, 2021PRLog — The World Boxing Council (WBC) and VIVE Network have released the long-awaited WBC LIVE Channel  Powered by VIVE, as well as a fresh suite of applications. The universal rollout comes just in time for two live pay-per-view events that will stream in 4K exclusively on the newly-minted service.

WBC LIVE Channel Powered by VIVE makes its debut with a comprehensive mixture of professional boxing commentary programs from established personalities, WBC Vault content,   full fight replays of professional cards that have been streamed on VIVE’s platform in the past, as well as plenty of promotional content profiling upcoming fight cards, promoters, and athletes. Well-known contributors to the dynamic lineup include Pedro Fernandez – 38-year radio veteran of Ring Talk, Michael Montero of The Neutral Corner, Terel “TstreeT Controversy” Vann of Fight View 360, Claudio Reilsono, Luther Dupree, and Smokin’ Jim Frazier of The Boxing Authorities, and Brits, Joe Pugh and Jack Orme, of Pep Talk UK.

“I am extremely excited to be a part of the WBC family and the launch of an innovative 24-hour digital boxing network. In the eyes of fans and media alike, the WBC is widely recognized as the leading sanctioning among the governing bodies. I am blessed to have this opportunity to provide content for the platform. Digital broadcasting is the future of sports, and I can’t wait to see what the WBC Channel Powered by VIVE Network has in store,” says Terel Vann.

The content is predominantly English for the time being; however, Spanish-only time slots will be added imminently. More information about programming and talent is available at bit.ly/WBCshows.

WBC LIVE Channel’s purpose is two-fold: (1) to appeal to sports fans with an appetite for premium broadcast events who own the multi-millions of UHD HDR-capable displays; and (2) to expose boxing fans to lesser-known, up-and-coming boxing talent they may otherwise never hear about or see. The boxing hub offers a round-the-clock, leanback entertainment experience that both reflects upon the history of the sport, as well as explores the multiple facets of its present and future. Viewers may keep up with current champions, rules and regulations, sport politics, and much more.

Two professional pay-per-view boxing events are scheduled to stream live in 4K this week on WBC LIVE Channel, including a doubleheader amateur/professional event in Atlanta on Thursday, September 16 commemorating Mexican Independence Day. The amateur card – of the moniker Atlanta Corporate Fight Night 14 – will feature the face behind The Neutral Corner, Michael Montero a.k.a. Montero On Boxing vs. John Harley Ochoa  as the main event followed immediately thereafter by professional card Underground Showdown headlined by Abel Aparicio vs. Michael Gaxiola. Tickets and full bout cards are available at bit.ly/ATLcorpfightnight for $14.99, and proceeds benefit Ridgeview Alumni Charitable Corporation (mental health and addiction treatment). Then, the professional boxing show, VIVA Playa Del Carmen, happens on Saturday, September 18. Tickets are available at bit.ly/vivaplayadc.

Fight fans that want to stay apprised of WBC LIVE upcoming programs and events may subscribe to email and SMS notifications by visiting bit.ly/WBClivenews.
