SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Aug. 16, 2023 – PRLog — ElevateMeD, a Scottsdale-based nonprofit on a mission to increase diversity in medicine, is proud to announce the fifth Explosion of a Dream weekend from September 22-24, 2023. This weekend celebrates the organization’s impact amongst its scholarship recipients, supporters, and the public with its signature fundraising event Explosion of a Dream, taking place on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Mountain Shadows Resort (5445 E Lincoln Dr, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253). The weekend also includes a weekend-long annual Scholars Summit (invitation only) and an ElevateMeD Day celebration on September 24.  Ticket sales and information about the weekend celebration are available at dream.elevatemed.org.

The Explosion of a Dream 2023 is a celebration of the future of medicine as the organization raises funds for the ElevateMeD Scholars Program, a solution that awards diverse medical students annually with tuition-based scholarships, mentorship, leadership development, and financial wellness education.  Over 50 students have been selected to the Scholars Program from partnering medical schools across the country. Now in its fifth installment, the organization will provide its 200+ attendees with an exciting evening at Mountain Shadows Resort to learn about the mission and impact of the program to end health disparities through its dinner program! This year, more than 25 of the program’s scholarship recipients from medical schools across the country will attend the third annual Scholars Summit. This weekend of workshops is designed to provide diverse medical student leaders with workshops tailored toward their professional development as an enhancement to the programming received throughout the academic year. The ElevateMeD Scholars will have the opportunity to work with nationally known coaches and leaders and engage in peer-to-peer networking alongside program mentors. SCIB Celebrates Sarawak Day With Life-Saving Blood Donation Drive

Civil engineering specialist Sarawak Consolidated Industries Berhad (“SCIB” or the “Company”) is pleased to announce that they have organised their annual blood donation drive in collaboration with the Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank in honor of Sarawak Day. The initiative, known as “SCIB Blood Donation Day”, is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to giving back to society.

Under the lively banner “Ohh Kitak Juh Derma Darah”, the event is scheduled for 22nd July 2023, from 9am to 2pm. The venue is the Department of Transfusion Services and Blood Bank at Sarawak General Hospital, Kuching. SCIB is extending a heartfelt invitation to the community to join hands in this lifesaving cause. This marks SCIB’s 4th collaboration with Sarawak General Hospital Blood Bank since their first collaboration in 2020.

“A fundamental part of our ESG philosophy at SCIB is giving back to the community,” said Mr. Ku Chong Hong (‘Mr. Ku’), Managing Director of SCIB. “This blood donation drive not only aligns with our social responsibility but also embodies the spirit of Sarawak Day – unity and care for one another. To show gratitude to the generous donors, SCIB will be gifting a microfibre shirt to the first 120 participants. This token is a symbol of appreciation and recognition of their invaluable contribution to society.

     With the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, London, the Copenhagen Dragon Boat Festival 2023 was held on June 18 (Copenhagen time) in Copenhagen, Denmark; and the 2023 UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival was held from June 17 to 18 (London time) in Manchester, United Kingdom (UK).
  
     In the Copenhagen Dragon Boat Festival 2023, 24 teams formed by the Danish community took part in a full day of racing. In addition to spectating the exhilarating competition on the water, sports enthusiasts and families immersed themselves in the culinary and musical highlights by the shore of Copenhagen. 
 
     The Director-General of the London ETO, Mr Gilford Law, delivered a virtual speech at the opening ceremony, highlighting that dragon boat racing dates back more than 2000 years, and since Hong Kong held the first international dragon boat competition in 1976, it has developed into a truly global event.
 
     Mr Law added, “We are glad to see that the Dragon Boat Festival, a traditional Chinese festival which has been inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2009, is also celebrated in Denmark. This festival is equally popular in Hong Kong. The 2023 Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races will be held next weekend at Hong Kong’s famous Victoria Harbour, with over 160 teams formed by locals and overseas friends. This event demonstrates Hong Kong as a dynamic hub with a unique fusion of tradition and modernity where Eastern and Western cultures seamlessly intertwine, and where we celebrate Eastern and Western festivals with equal enthusiasm.”
 
     The festival was also celebrated in Manchester, UK, where over 55 teams participated in races of various categories during the two-day 2023 UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. The local community also took part in a series of cultural experiences by the shore, including Tai Chi demonstrations and Chinese calligraphy lessons.
