Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, AVSM, VSM assumes Charge as Director General Naval Operations

Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, AVSM, VSM has assumed charge as Director General Naval Operations today, on 07 Jun 21. An alumnus of the National Defense Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune, he was commissioned into the Indian Navy in Jan 1987. He is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Naval War College, Karanja, and Naval Command College, Newport, Rhode Island, USA.

The Flag Officer is a specialist in Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and has served on frontline warships of the Navy as ASW Officer and later as the Executive Officer and Principal Warfare Officer of Guided Destroyer INS Mysore

He has commanded the missile corvette INS Kora, the missile frigate INS Shivalik and the aircraft carrier INS Viraat. He has held important staff appointments in IHQ MoD (Navy) in the Directorate of Staff Requirements, Directorate of Personnel, and the Directorate of Net-Centric Operations.

On promotion to the rank of Rear Admiral in Feb 2016, he was appointed as the Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff (Int – A) at HQ IDS, New Delhi, and subsequently as the Chief Staff Officer (Operations) in Headquarters, Western Naval Command, Flag Officer Commanding Maharashtra Naval Area and Flag Officer Sea Training.

Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar is a recipient of the AtiVishishtSeva Medal and VishishtSeva Medal for distinguished service.

Vice Admiral Sandeep Naithani, AVSM, VSM, assumes charge as the Chief of Materiel

Vice Admiral Sandeep Naithani, AVSM, VSM, has assumed charge as the Chief of Materiel, of the Indian Navy on 01 June 2021.

A graduate of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune. He was commissioned into the Electrical Branch of the Indian Navy on 01 Jan 1985. The Admiral is a Post Graduate in Radar and Communication Engineering from IIT Delhi and a distinguished alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) and the National Defence College (NDC).

 The Admiral has held various challenging appointments during his illustrious naval career spanning over three and a half decades. The officer has served on board the Aircraft Carrier Viraat in various capacities. He has tenanted important appointments in Naval Dockyards at Mumbai and Visakhapatnam and in the Staff, Personnel and Materiel Branches of Naval Headquarters. The Admiral has also commanded the premier electrical training establishment of the Navy, INS Valsura.

 As a Flag Officer, the Admiral has served as the Assistant Chief of Materiel (Modernisation) in Naval Headquarters, Chief Staff Officer (Technical), HQ WNC, Admiral Superintendent of Naval Dockyard Mumbai, Director General Naval Project at Mumbai, Programme Director, HQ ATVP, and as Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition in Naval Headquarters.

 In recognition of his distinguished services, the Admiral has been awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Vishisht Seva Model.

 As a Principal Staff Officer and the Senior most Technical Officer in the Indian Navy, the Admiral would be in charge of all aspects related to maintenance management and life-cycle product support of all Engineering, Electrical, Electronics, Weapons, Sensors and IT related equipment and systems for ships and submarines, issues related to indigenisation of naval equipment and creation of major marine and technical infrastructure.

 The Admiral relieves Vice Admiral SR Sarma, PVSM, AVSM, VSM who superannuated on 31 May 21.

Vice Admiral Kiran Deshmukh, AVSM, VSM, assumes charge as the Controller Warship Production and Acquisition

Vice Admiral Kiran Deshmukh, AVSM, VSM, has assumed charge as the Controller Warship Production and Acquisition on 31 May 21. Vice Admiral Kiran Deshmukh, who is alumnus of VJTI, University of Mumbai, was commissioned as an Engineer Officer into the Indian Navy on 31 March 86. He holds a Master degree in Engineering and is a post graduate from Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. The Flag Officer has held various important appointments in the Staff, Personnel and Materiel Branch at Naval Headquarters, trial agencies, MO, Naval Dockyard and Command staff at HQENC. The Flag Officer has served onboard frontline ships like Rajput Class, Delhi Class and Tabar Class in various capacities. The Admiral is a recipient of the AtiVisishtSeva Medal and VisishtSeva Medal for his distinguished service. Prior to his appointment as Controller Warship Production & Acquisition, as Flag Officer he has served as Director General Naval Project at Visakhapatnam, Admiral Superintendent of Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam, Chief Staff Officer (Tech)/ HQENC and Assistant Chief of Material (Dockyards & Refits).

ADMIRAL KARAMBIR SINGH, CHIEF OF THE NAVAL STAFF VISITS DEFENCE SERVICES STAFF COLLEGE, WELLINGTON

Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) visited Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington from 31 Mar – 01 Apr 21.  The CNS delivered a lecture on ‘Maritime Security in the Indo-Pacific’ to the officers undergoing the 76th Staff Course at DSSC. Highlighting the increasing geo-strategic focus on Indo-Pacific, CNS emphasised India’s approach to inclusive littoral engagements. 

          The Admiral was given an update on the ongoing training activities and incorporation of new trends with specific reference to jointmanship amongst the three services.  Later he visited the College area and was briefed on the changes being undertaken in training curriculum and infrastructural development as a step towards enhancing the role of DSSC as a Centre of Excellence for Professional Military Education.
