Delhi roads, infamous for incidents like the BMW hit and run case, witnessed another scary incident. A businessman named Subhash Chandar Wadhwa smashed his Audi SUV near Little Pearls Play School, at posh Vasant Vihar, New Delhi. Luckily the school timings were over, otherwise, a grave situation may have arisen.
Neighbours and passersby believe that the culprit Subhash Chander Wadhwa, resident of 17 Pashchimi Marg, Vasant Vihar, was in an inebriated state, probably under the influence of alcohol or some drug. He didn’t seem to be in his senses. Many people who stood in the vicinity had a narrow escape, as the speed of the car was extremely fast and totally out of control.
A tree saved many lives, as the SUV was smashed into the neighbour’s car parked nearby and then into the tree. The extent of the impact is clearly visible from the image of the car.
Vikas Ahuja, an automobile enthusiast said “Faster cars, with powerful engines should be handled more carefully and responsibly. But practically, it is seen as exactly the opposite, especially on Delhi roads. People think they are the kings on the road when driving such cars.
Strict penal action should be taken against such culprits, who can be a threat to others’ safety by their irresponsible behaviour. Usually, they are repeat offenders and go scot-free with their money and power.”
The video footage of the incident shows how this culprit was driving his car in the residential area, which has many young children. He must be very well aware of the danger since his house is right next to Little Pearls School. He also did not report the accident to the police, as is mandatory as per the new guidelines.

Vasant Vihar, one of Delhi’s posh localities, and Category A colony in terms of property tax is facing an acute water crisis. For the past three days, there has been a negligible water supply. Even before, the water supply has been minimal and barely enough for the residents to survive.
According to VVWA President, Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bindra, “We have just reviewed the water situation. Against a minimum requirement of 8 feet in the reservoir, we have 5.5 feet. There is no point in pumping this as it will lead us nowhere. It would be advisable to let the water collect in the night and review the position early morning at around 6.00 am. It pains us to take this decision, but tonight this is the best option. There is a failure on part of DJB and we have this effort to divert our water. A sad situation. Our apologies once again. Hopefully, tomorrow will be another day. We are going to ask DJB to organize special tankers tomorrow. MVV has one Tanker and that is neither here nor there.”
One resident, Mukund Ballani complained “No water yesterday and even today. The most unfortunate part is no water and we suffer but bills are raised. Today received a bill for 60000/-. Really shocked. Request help to get it resolved.
Another resident Seema Bahuguna lamented about the defective billing by the agency MVV. She claimed that the other colonies in other parts of Delhi pay a fraction of the amount for a better supply. She also urged approaching MCD for reclassification of the colony if it does not have the basic amenities.
The residents have been making a list of houses in the colony with no water for a long time. There are 28 houses on the list and it keeps growing.
Prof. Kapil Rampal, another resident of the colony attributed the water crisis to poor supply. He also urged everyone to save water and judiciously use the limited water supply.
The colony has also been trying for the past 4 years, to prevent the diversion of its allocated water to Janta Flats and slums. Despite, DJB’s explicit orders, there were certain individuals that were creating an illegal diversion, which was prevented with the help of police.
The Chief Minister of Delhi’s office has not commented on the issue, despite several attempts to contact them.

Gurugram-based Veddis Foundation has renewed its partnership with the Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission (HSRLM) to improve the livelihoods of an additional 80,000 rural households across 26 blocks in 4 districts over the next 2 years. Veddis Foundation will help enable effective governance of the SRLM programme. The partnership with the Haryana government is part of Veddis Foundation’s GATI [गति] (Governance for policy Action, Transformation and Innovation) initiative and is the second investment under Veddis Foundation’s 100 crore commitment to accelerate large-scale social impact.
Since its partnership with the Haryana State Rural Livelihood Mission began 3 years ago, Veddis Foundation has helped transform 7,000 community institutions across 7 districts in the state. Social and economic indicators were significantly impacted as nearly 100,000 households have an annual incremental income of over Rs. 60,000. Veddis Foundation will now replicate the success of the partnership to an additional 4 districts – Charkhi Dadri, Mahendragarh, Kaithal and Rewari – targeting over 80,000 rural households.
The partnership with the HSRLM will create financially sustainable and effective institutional platforms for rural households. The goal is to increase household income through sustainable livelihood enhancements, as well as better access to financial and public services. This will involve building up capacities of critical institutions under HSRLM. Targeted outcomes for the programme include the development of model Cluster Level Federations (CLFs), enhanced access to funds for Self Help Groups (SHGs), increased income levels of marginalised families through diversified interventions, convergence with other government programmes, subsidies, and schemes, and value chain development. Technology will be the enabler for data driven governance.

We partnered with the HSRLM in November 2018 to improve governance in 31 CLFs across 7 districts in the state. Veddis Foundation has earlier partnered with other State Rural Livelihood Missions. The first partnership was with the Rajasthan Grameen Aajeevika Vikas Parishad (RGAVP) from 2016 to 2018 and resulted in a 50%+ increase in income for 1,60,000 rural households across 10 districts in Rajasthan. They also recently partnered with Himachal Pradesh state Rural Livelihood Mission (HPSRLM) to support the livelihoods of 50,000 rural households across 5 districts.
Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma and Ambassador of Japan to India, H. E. Satoshi Suzuki, inaugurated the 5th edition of the Shillong Cherry Blossom Festival 2021 and the 1st edition of the Shillong Literature Festival at Wards Lake & Polo Ground in Meghalaya. The festival coincides with the actual blooming of cherry blossom flowers in the state, featured special performances from acclaimed artists with jam-packed crowds to see blossoms close to hitting peak bloom. The three-day festival, from 25-27 November 2021, witnessed a footfall of 50000 tourists and citizens.
Meghalaya is home not only to unique horticultural crops and fruits but also to plants of medicinal and ornamental value, like the Cherry Blossom. Primarily found across the east and west Khasi hills, cherry blossoms are also called Prunus Cerasoides and are considered a gift from the Himalayas. The buds start to show around late October and the full bloom begins in the early half of November, especially in the North-eastern city.
The cherry blossom trees in Shillong & Sikkim were planted mostly between 1955 to 1975, under the leadership of the state’s first Chief Secretary, Mr. Nari K Rustomji, who brought seeds from Japan and scattered them in the forested area around his residence. He later ordered the then-District Forest Officer, late Mr. Wahlang, to transplant the saplings to the banks of the Umkhrah near Polo Grounds, Ward’s Lake and Lady Hydari Park. Later, the Forest Department propagated it around the city.
In his brief address, the Deputy Chief Minister, Shri P. Tynsong said, “the festival is a run-up to the State 50th Statehood celebration and dedicated to the people of Meghalaya. The state will witness many more events to mark the Statehood celebration.”
The first edition of the Shillong Literature Festival witnessed a massive footfall of 10 thousand in three days at Wards Lake with “The Hills are alive” performance of Aroha Choir at the inaugural ceremony. The reading Hub gave the option of reading, interacting with authors and donating books, while young visitors aged 18-30 participated in Painting, Illustration, Short story, Essay, Poetry & Photography competition. A panel discussion with authors and artists and hip-hop performances by Khasibloodz, the lit fest also saw a quirky fashion show of recycled material by CatxLizz. Also, four books were launched during the festival including “Marriage” by Devdutt Patnaik.
Dr. Vijay Kumar D, IAS, Commissioner and Secretary, Government of Meghalaya said “Shillong Literature Festival has become a popular entity in art & literature eco-system, making it more inclusive and innovative while promoting music, art and culture. It will provide a platform to writers, readers and authors from the state to connect with literati from other parts of the country.”
Shillong has produced literati like U SoSo Tham & inspired Rabindranath Tagore, Varrier Elwin and others. The literature festival provided a platform for sharing of ideas by contemporary artists by forging ahead of the rich oral traditions. The concluding ceremony had veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah unplugged through candid conversation.
North East has immense talent and the literature festival will provide young minds with a platform to create entrepreneurs out of the artists in a sustainable model where the talent and passion of youth can become his livelihood. From fashion shows, band performances, graffiti artwork to games and local food the festival left citizens, travel enthusiasts and nature lovers mesmerized.
After a memorable victory over defending champions Mumbai City FC, Hyderabad FC are back in action on Thursday when they take on one of the in-form teams in the league in Jamshedpur FC in an away game at Bambolim.
The game will be the first of six for Manolo Marquez’s men in a hectic month of December, incidentally, all of them scheduled to be played at the same venue.
Currently in fourth, Owen Coyle’s Red Miners are fresh off a 3-1 victory over FC Goa and will be high on confidence going into this game.
However, HFC Head Coach Manolo Marquez believes his team is ready for the game but also knows that it will not be an easy one for his side. “For me, Owen Coyle’s team are always tough to face. Last season, both games were very equal and ended in a draw,” said Manolo.
“This season, they have players who are comfortable playing different styles of football and are happy to play with more possession. They also have a similar squad from last season and for me, they will surely fight for the top-4,” he added.
In attack, Jamshedpur have Nerijus Valskis and Jordan Murray, both of who were on the scoresheet in the last game. The likes of Alex Lima and Greg Stewart also bring in the experience.
Speaking about the opponents, Manolo Marquez said, “Jamshedpur is a really strong side. Valskis and Murray are there to finish chances but I think they have high quality all around the pitch. Fast wingers, technically good midfielders and experienced defenders; Jamshedpur have a strong squad, a compact team and we will have to work really hard to win this game.”
Hyderabad FC beat Mumbai City in the last game and will look to carry this momentum to the clash on Thursday. The likes of Joao Victor, Akash Mishra, Asish Rai, Mohammad Yasir and Hitesh Sharma have all been consistently effective and Coach Manolo has his plans set for Thursday’s clash.
“Irrespective of the results in the last game, I think the plans will be the same for both sides. We will stick to our style and so will Jamshedpur and I have no doubt that is going to be another close game in the ISL,” the Spaniard said, speaking about HFC’s approach to their next encounter.
