FLAME University launches an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Design program

Extending the current offering of design as a minor, FLAME University has introduced a Bachelor of Design (B.Des) program at the undergraduate level. Rooted in liberal education and centered around experience design, the program will prepare students for a fulfilling career in designing technology-driven human experiences – digital and interactive interfaces, tangible interfaces, different forms of immersive storytelling, service design, and much more.

Announcing the launch of the program, Prof. Dishan Kamdar, Vice-Chancellor, FLAME University, said, “The concept of design today requires professionals to have an understanding of the traditional knowledge combined with elements of simplicity and practicality and yet have a finger on the pulse of the demands of the future. The B.Des program, with experience design as a major, is crafted for the future designer, who will not just be able to envision ideas and execute them, but also innovate by creating thought-provoking concepts. Our design education philosophy aims to equip students with relevant competencies and sharpen their skills through a practical and multi-disciplinary approach. The program, which has been created under the advice of some of the best minds from India and abroad, will be taught by faculty who are experts and bring in real-world experience. By the end of the program, students will be ready to take on challenges regardless of the complexities, showcasing the impact and value that design professionals bring to the table.”

The field of design is no longer just about making; it is about having a systemic view of the world and approaching opportunities and modern world needs through creative and comprehensive resolution. Leveraging the liberal education approach of FLAME University, the B.Des program drives to equip students with relevant and new-generation competencies that make their approach, as designers, holistic.

The program is designed based on the insights offered by 50+ global design experts and is vetted by a very illustrious advisory board that comprises none other than Don Norman (known as the ‘Father of UX Design’), Director of The Design Lab at the University of California, San Diego, USA. The B.Des program will be taught by a talented pool of full-time faculty experts with academic backgrounds from some of the most revered institutions as well as visiting faculty consisting of industry professionals.

The curriculum aims to sync with the global expectations of designers and evolve with industry standards, fostering design skills through the cross-pollination of interdiscplinary courses. The program is built on an ‘Experience-centred Design’ curriculum, crafted for the future designer, where the students will get to work on the interdisciplinary nature of complex problem-solving by integrating diverse perspectives and fostering new approaches to thinking and problem-solving.

FLAME has integrated courses from the disciplines of Design, Humanities, Management, Social Sciences and Technology to nurture designers, who are storytellers, makers and doers, and systems thinkers and aims to develop a reflective design-oriented mindset. Students will also get the choice to pick minors from a range of options along with their major. Armed with cutting-edge knowledge, experience, and exposure, they will be industry-ready and can look forward to a rewarding career as designers.

FLAME will also offer financial aid and scholarship to deserving students.

As an e-commerce platform that aims to make responsible beauty brands and credible homegrown brands more accessible, it holds diversity, equality, and inclusivity in the highest regard. The video campaign challenges dogmatic beauty standards & questions age-old stereotypes while truly embracing the brand’s motto “Celebrating You”. Conceptualized and developed by Whiplash Agency, this inspiring DVC will run across the brand’s YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat & LinkedIn handles.

“Cossouq is mindful of people’s needs and works to serve a diverse customer base in an inclusive manner. We, as a brand, are here to ease your journey toward self-love and acceptance. Highlighting how Cossouq caters to everyone irrespective of age, gender, sexuality, or race, this campaign emphasizes certain issues and taboos that people still face for being ‘different’. Many of them are told off whenever they venture into a different path with excuses, often starting and ending with ‘Samjha Kar’. This campaign plays a ‘UNO Reverse’ by turning the tables on the world. It asks them to understand once and for all that in this new age, these extraordinary people will not be backing down or shying away from showing off who they truly are and what they stand for,” said Meet Jatakia, Director of Branding & Marketing at Cossouq.

In line with the ideology of Cossouq, the thought-provoking video campaign #SamjhaKar will help nudge acceptance, inclusivity, and diversity ahead. Tied together with poetry, the film begins with the mention of equality and how it is often compromised. A powerful character in the film is the iconic drag queen Mark Mascarenhas themself, portraying the struggles they face and the recognition the world fails to give them. Fashion model, Aman Pal, who often challenges gender stereotypes, can also be spotted confronting society’s issues with queer love.

What people decide to do for a living is a big part of their self-identity. And this video is an ode to those who rebelled their way into the unconventional job of their dreams. From the real-life flair of female bartender & mixologist Ami Shroff to Dinesh Mohan, a 63-year-old man breaking the monotony & trying out for a casting call, the stories of these people are showcased through powerful narration. The campaign is star-studded with Diya Basu, who is seen questioning age-old beauty standards. An influencer embracing the grey, Geetarsh Kaur is seen playing a tattoo artist, symbolizing how a profession has very little to do with age and so much more to do with passion. Actress Margi Desai sensitively plays the role of a sex worker & portrays her hopes & dreams, while Harsh Acharya assumes the unconventional role of a DJ & music producer. Mariyam Hussain is a hijab-wearing stylist & fashion designer asking to be seen beyond her religion as an individual with a strong personality and so much potential. There is representation in this film, through which the audience will witness someone who lives a life similar to theirs.

Revolutionizing the industry, Cossouq is an inclusive marketplace hosting 350+ brands and 12000+ cosmetics, skin, hair, health, and personal care products on its site. It seeks to create a community where every individual is celebrated, and each brand is heard. Chiropractic Can Provide Relief for Knee, Ankle, Foot and Other Lower Leg Conditions

Theres a common misconception that chiropractors work solely on the neck and spine. While its certainly true that chiropractors work on those areas, the benefits of a spinal adjustment and alignment can benefit patients who have lower leg and foot issues, said Dr. Michael Gottfried, a chiropractic physician at Aquidneck Chiropractic in Middletown, RI and a board member of the Chiropractic Society of Rhode Island.

Chiropractic adjustments reduce joint restrictions or misalignments in the spine and other joints in the body in an effort to reduce inflammation and improve function of both the affected joint and nervous system. By increasing joint mobility and improving your nervous system function and spinal health, your body has the ability to better manage symptoms caused by knee, foot and ankle pain.

My first visit to a chiropractor was in chiropractic college. I was involved in an auto accident that left me with back and neck pain. I was a runner at that point in my life and after the accident I simply could not run, said Dr. Gottfried. On my first visit, the doctor adjusted my neck. The next day I was able to go out for a three-mile run without pain. That lesson stayed with me throughout my career, the close relation of the spine to the legs.
