Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, met with Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for International Trade, on the margins of the G20 Trade and Investment Ministers meeting held in Italy on October 11 and 12, 2021.

During what was their first ministerial meeting, Minister Ng congratulated Secretary of State Trevelyan on her new appointment and discussed the ways they could work together to continue building the close strategic and commercial ties between Canada and the United Kingdom.

Minister Ng reinforced Canada’s commitment to working with the United Kingdom to ensure that the rules-based international trading system, with the WTO at its core, is stable and predictable and that everyone—including small businesses and women entrepreneurs—can access the benefits of trade. The Ministers noted the G20 and G7 Trade and Investment Ministers meetings this month, as well as the WTO’s 12th Ministerial Conference at the end of November, as important opportunities to advance shared trade policy priorities.

Minister Ng welcomed the United Kingdom’s application to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and discussed the progress in the country’s accession process. She reiterated the importance of expanding the CPTPP’s membership to include economies able and willing to meet its high standard of commitment and ambitious market access outcomes.

Minister Ng stated that she looks forward to launching negotiations for a comprehensive free trade agreement with the United Kingdom. She highlighted that an agreement tailored to specific bilateral interests and trade priorities could further deepen the Canada-U.K. relationship.

The Transeuntis Mundi Project Immersive Virtual Reality Experience Launches 2021 Online Exhibition

The Transeuntis Mundi Project, an immersive virtual reality experience about celebrating migration and transculturalism over the course of human history, is launching its 2021 exhibition, and is currently available online now through May 21 on the platform Artsy, one of the most prestigious media for Art collectors.

Artist Candida Borges characterizes the exhibition as one in which the past inspires the future of art. She says, “The Transeuntis Mundi allows the audience to experience the sound and visual memory of peoples and cultures that have crossed the world, and the exhibition evokes the power of ancestry, identity, and legacy.”

“This work reveals the human journey, and provides an opportunity for people to gain understanding, demonstrate empathy, and celebrate diversity,” she says.

A pair of Latin American artists and scholars conceptualized The Transeuntis Mundi, Brazilian artist Cândida Borges and the Colombian artist Gabriel Mario Vélez, both of whom have conducted academic research about the field of composition in emerging technologies.

This current version of the exhibition is entitled, “Web Derive 01,” a series of 9 photographs and a luxury photography book signed by the artists. It explores the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Colombia. There have been installations throughout New York, Rochester, Miami, Rio de Janeiro, and Medellín. Borges says, “The expression ‘Transeuntis Mundi,’ in the original Latin, personifies the person who has undertaken adventures of discovery and exploration in the larger world.”

She adds that virtual reality is the premiere medium in which to experience immersive art today. “People are virtually migrating inside the VR headset,” she says, “and they can travel through the landscapes in 360-degree audio and video.”

Following the Artsy installation, The Transeuntis Mundi will appear at festivals in Colombia and China. Future plans call for resuming in-person exhibitions.
