Hong Kong – Heritage Fiesta 2026 themed “Traversing Northern Metropolis” to release in October (with images)

The Heritage Fiesta 2026, under the style “Traversing Northern Metropolis”will be held from October to December, including 12 areas with stated monoliths and graded historical structures in the Northern Metropolis (NM).

A spokesperson for the Commissioner for Heritage’s Office (CHO) of the Development Bureau stated today (September 24), “The NM is not only a key focus and new engine of Hong Kong’s future development, its traditional towns and villages are also home to rich historical and cultural resources. The 12 spots with declared monuments and graded historic buildings featured in this year’s Fiesta are grouped under three themes: “Clan culture and standard character of the New Territories”, “Adaptive re-use of historical structures” and “A century of supporting skill: handing down the starting spirit of schools”. Apart from free guided tours, parent-child workshops and public talks, this year’s edition will, for the first time, feature open-top bus heritage tours on designated weekends.”

The 12 picked areas with stated monoliths and graded historical structures covered by the Heritage Fiesta are as follows:

Clan culture and standard character of the New Territories

• Hau Ku Shek Ancestral Hall
• Hau Mei Fung Ancestral Hall
• Liu Man Shek Tong Ancestral Hall
• Liu Ying Lung Study Hall
• Tai Fu Tai
• Tang Ancestral Hall, the Guesthouse and Yau Kung School in Ha Tsuen
• Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trail

Adaptive re-use of historical structures

A century of supporting skill: handing down the starting spirit of schools

The representative continued, “This event covers the Ping Shan and Lung Yeuk Tau Heritage Trails, both situated within the NM, with the Ping Shan Heritage Trail being Hong Kong’s first-ever heritage trail. The Ping Shan Heritage Trail has a number of historic buildings, including the Tat Tak Communal Hall and Ching Shu Hin, both of which bear witness to the history of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. The Tat Tak Communal Hall was once lent out for use as a children’s home, providing shelter to homeless children who had come south from the Mainland, while Ching Shu Hin served as a transit point, providing accommodation and food for compatriots travelling to the Chinese Mainland. These two buildings reflect the bonds of kinship and shared destiny between Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland.”

The structures and areas included in the Heritage Fiesta 2026 are soaked in history and now serve a vast array of functions. These variety from structures that maintain their standard usages and those that have actually been revitalised for brand-new usages, to the school of the Former Yuen Long Public Middle School, which is still in usage as a school. As the school is running as a secondary school, it is usually near the general public.
