As part of a commitment to education, Perdue Farms, through the Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation, has awarded $75,000 in scholarships to 15 children of Perdue associates and independent contract farmers.
The Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Perdue Farms, awarded each student a $5,000 scholarship. The Foundation was established in 1957 by company founder Arthur W. Perdue and is funded through the estates of Arthur W. Perdue and Frank Perdue.
The Foundation has awarded scholarships to children of its associates and independent farm family partners every year since 1983.
The 15 children who received scholarships are:
- Abbey Brake, daughter of Steven and Nancy Brake of Pinetops, N.C., will attend North Carolina State University at Raleigh. She plans to pursue a degree in animal sciences.
- Regan Bunting, daughter of Tim Bunting of Berlin, Md., and Kerrie Bunting of Snow Hill, Md., will attend Muhlenberg College to pursue a degree in biochemistry.
- Morgan Gordy, daughter of Stephen and Melissa Gordy of Laurel, Del.,will attend the Salisbury University. She will pursue a degree in physical therapy.
- Jared Heady, son of David Heady and Jamie Burgess of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.,will attend the Florida State University. He will pursue a degree in political science.
- Ariana Jenkins, daughter of Corris and Tameka Jenkins of Jamesville, N.C., will attend Johns Hopkins University to pursue a degree in psychology.
- Emma Kiger, daughter of Rodney and Valerie Kiger of East Bend, N.C.,will attend Lenoir-Rhyne University. She plans to pursue a degree in elementary education.
- Emily McKenzie, daughter of Christopher and Christine McKenzie of Latta, S.C., will attend Florence-Darlington Technical College to study dental hygiene.
- Meagan Miller, daughter of Jonathan and Nora Miller of Montgomery, Ind., will attend University of Southern Indiana to pursue a degree in education.
- Reagan Nowaskie, daughter of Herbie and Christina Nowaskie of Vincennes, Ind.,will attend University of Evansville. She plans to study biology.
- Sarah Price, daughter of Lyn and Kelly Price of Dillon, S.C.,will attend Clemson University. She plans to study business.
- Olivia Roach, daughter of John and Tamara Roach of Statesville, N.C., will attend North Carolina State University at Raleigh to pursue a degree in aerospace aeronautics.
- Madison Rush, daughter of Kimberly Rush of Eden, Md., will attend Stevenson University to pursue a degree in pre-law.
- Tucker Williams, son of Brad and Cathy Williams of Grifton, N.C.,will attend East Carolina University to pursue a degree in engineering.
- Chaz Wilson, son of Erick and Michelle Wilson of Smiths Grove, Ky., will attend Kentucky Wesleyan College to pursue a degree in environmental sciences.
- Garrett Wright, son of Tim and Theresa Wright of Mardela Springs, Md.,will attend Mississippi State University. He plans to pursue a degree in agricultural business and management.
