Bangalore, October 2020: SIFF Young Artiste 2020, a national level talent competition across various genres of music and dance, today announced their Top 100 finalists. The initiative received over 12000 entries across India from students between the ages of 11-18 to find avenues to pursue arts. Earlier this year, the program was launched by maestros of international stature such as Amjad Ali Khan, Terence Lewis, Shovana Narayan, Shalmali Kholgade and Aruna Sairam.

The Top 100 finalists are being conferred with scholarships worth Rs. 25 lakhs involving a high-quality mentorship program and cash awards at the finale. The finalists are currently joining the Young Artiste Advanced Mentorship Programme (YAMP) in which they would be mentored in their chosen area. Music and dance virtuosos such as Dr. L Subramaniam, Kavita Krishnamurthy and Madhavi Mudgal have consented to mentor the participants. Additionally, experts in the field such as Rukmini Vijayakumar (Bharatanatyam), Anupama Bhagwat (Sitar/Sarod), Nikhita Gandhi (Indian & Western Vocal), Sagar Bora (Hip-Hop), among others, will be driving the category specific sessions. The finale, which will be a showcase of the exceptional talent recognized, will be hosted in accordance with the evolving COVID-19 situation and government guidelines issued at the time.

“It has been extremely rewarding to bear witness to the process of unearthing these exceptional talents and we are proud to announce the selected finalists. We are thankful to the mentors and jurors who have been so kind as to join us in this endeavor” said Kavita Iyer, Co-founder, Young Artiste

Young Artiste Season 1 received a tremendous response, with entries pouring in from various parts of the country. We’ve had participants all the way from Ujjain to Imphal, from the capital of Delhi to the culturally rich Dimapur, from North 24 Parganas to Udupi and Kozhikode! As the nation went into lockdown and art became a luxury for most, we continued to strive for the zenith of this competition and conducted auditions in the most unpredictable manner. The finalists have demonstrated exceptional prowess and command over their respective fields and an unwavering passion towards pursuing the arts, each in their unique ways. We’ve seen students coming from artistic families and ones who do not have anyone to share their interest in dance with. Spanning across demographics. During this process of witnessing thousands of stories in our search for India’s best, we have definitely learnt one thing – Art knows no discrimination, no boundaries. Anyone can be anArtiste!

“Young Artiste has been instituted with the view to set up a national level platform to tap into and recognize the hidden potential of young artistes in India and provide a fertile learning ground for them to harness their skills. Furthermore, we are certain that the mentorship program and the opportunity to interact with diverse art forms, will surely aid in broadening their scope of knowledge and exposure.” said Sandeep Singhal, Trustee SIFF

YAMP will involve a combination of masterclasses, workshops, and collaborations among fellow Young Artistes in preparation for the finale performance. Young Artiste has an esteemed panel of jury who have been involved in the judging process since the inception of the program and these experts will be conducting the workshops for YAMP for each of the 20 categories.

“I am happy to be associated with the Young Artiste Mentorship Program. India is a country that is packed with hidden talent, waiting to be discovered. It is indeed encouraging to meet these budding artists. I applaud SIFF – Young Artiste for doing a wonderful job of discovering and nurturing our nation’s talented youth”, said Dr. L. Subramaniam, Young Artiste Mentor.

The Young Artiste Advanced Mentorship Program is set to be a gamechanger in arts education, providing pathbreaking exposure to the students across India and building a community of likeminded artistes. To access the full list of the selected 100 finalists, you can visit the Young Artiste website.

Actor TERRENCE CLOWE Steps Back in Time for Gloria Steinhem Biopic ‘THE GLORIAS’

Actor Terrence Clowe steps back in time to highlight the early years of feminist icon Gloria Steinhem in the new biopic, THE GLORIAS, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Directed by Julie Taymor, THE GLORIAS chronicles Steinem’s itinerant childhood’s influence on her life as a writer, activist and organizer for women’s rights worldwide. Clowe emerges as a Barber and supportive father of a young black girl befriended by Steinem during her childhood years living in the south.

The film stars Academy Award winners Julianne Moore and Alicia Vikander as Gloria at different stages of her life, as well as Bette Midler, Timothy Hutton, Lorraine Toussaint and Janelle Monáe.

Clowe was excited to join the talented cast and for the opportunity to portray a positive role model that helped shape the young Steinem. Clowe adds, “I have been a fan of Julie Taymor’s work for some time. When I received the opportunity, I was floored! The joy and electricity you see in the scene were genuine and so appropriately set in the world of an African American barbershop, a place of community, family and culture. The relationship with my daughter in the film is apparent and I think adds dimension to the many ideals Ms. Steinem would later go on to advocate for. I have so much gratitude to be a part of the film that brilliantly honors Gloria Steinem whom I view as an extraordinary human being.”

A Clinton, Maryland native, Clowe has built a solid resume and reputation on both screen and stage. Audiences will recognize him from his previous television appearances on Boardwalk Empire, The Knick, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, I Am Homicide, and Z the Beginning of Everything; as well as the feature films The Eyes with Nick Turturro and Vincent Pastore, and An Act of Terror with Olivia Washington and Tonya Pinkins. He has worked with some of the biggest directors in the business, including Rob Marshall, Chris Rock, Steven Soderbergh, Martin Scorsese, Ann Reinking and Walter Bobbie.

A powerhouse on stage, Clowe has performed in the UK, Germany, Amsterdam, Switzerland, Japan and the US. He rose amongst the ranks performing in several high-level productions, including the European tour of West Side Story, Buddy Holly (Germany), and the original Dutch production of Miss Saigon. After returning to New York, Clowe landed a summer tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in the featured role of Judah alongside Little Mermaid star Jodi Benson and the Osmond’s, before embarking on a two-year stint in the Tony Award-winning production Chicago. He followed that up with the iconic role of “Old Bojangles” in the European production of FOSSE. A favorite on the regional theater scene, the pinnacle was appearing with the legendary Jennifer Holliday in Dreamgirls at the Fox Theater in Atlanta, followed by an invitation to perform in her benefit concert in NYC at Towne Hall.

Clowe is a graduate of the famed New York University Tisch School of the Arts and has studied at The Lee Strasberg Institute. Currently, Clowe studies with acting coach Anthony Abeson.

CHETU FOUNDATION DONATES $10,000 IN COVID-19 RELIEF TO FIRST RESPONDERS CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION & LOCAL PLANTATION FIRE DEPARTMENT

Yesterday, the Chetu Foundation, the non-profit subsidiary of the leading developer of custom software solutions, Chetu, celebrated National First Responders Day and the end of its COVID-19 relief initiative with a $10,000 check presentation ceremony to help support the local Plantation Fire Department and the First Responders Children’s Foundation.

Originally kicking-off the initiative in July, the Chetu Foundation hosted a COVID-19 food drive/fundraiser to help collect food products for Feeding South Florida, and raise money for the First Responders Children’s Foundation by matching $5 for every food item donated. At the end of the initial drive, over 300 pounds of food was collected for the South Florida community, and over $1,600 was raised. However, due to the worthiness of the cause and Chetu’s support of first responders, the Foundation upped the donation to $10,000 to help support both the First Responders Children’s Foundation and the local Plantation Fire Department.

“Our first responders continue to serve on the frontlines as we remain grappling with this pandemic, and we are beyond grateful for their dedication and sacrifice,” said Atal Bansal, founder and CEO of Chetu. “Helping our local communities is a core tenet of the Foundation, and we are honored to be able to support those that give so much to local residents.”

The check presentation ceremony, which was held at the Plantation Fire Administration building, featured opening remarks from representatives of the Chetu Foundation and was attended by the city of Plantation’s Fire Chief, Don Todd, who accepted the check on behalf of the fire department and the First Responders Children’s Foundation that helped facilitate the donation.

“First Responders Children’s Foundation would like to thank Chetu Foundation for the generous donation to our Foundation and the Plantation Fire Department,” said Jillian Crane, President of First Responders Children’s Foundation. “First responders on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic are sacrificing so much to protect our families, and this donation will help support the needs of local Florida first responder heroes who are putting their lives on the line for us every day.”

Founded with the focus to improve childhood wellbeing and support local communities, the Chetu Foundation continues to help the company’s employees give back and support charitable initiatives and humanitarian relief efforts around the world.
