Sagar Institute of Science Technology & Research (SISTec-R) Ratibad campus under the banner of National Service Scheme (NSS) organized a Cancer Awareness Program at its campus on 8th February, 2020 to mark World Cancer Day. The program was conducted with a poster making competition and an expert lecture to raise awareness about cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection and treatment.
The poster making competition held within the college campus was met with great participation from students and about 25+ various posters were created on the topic.
The competition was followed by an expert lecture by Chief Guest Dr. Atul Kumar Samaiya (Clinical Oncologist) with 21 years of experience. Dr. Jyoti Deshmukh Principal SISTec-R and Prof. Mukesh Mishra NSS Coordinator welcomed the guests with a sapling. Dr. Samaiya with a power point presentation explained various aspects of cancer, how it’s detected, its prevention and possible cures. He stressed upon the healthy lifestyle one should adopt, and avoid smoking and tobacco as they are the root cause of cancer.
Dr. Ekta Jain presently working in the Department of Physics at Barkatullah University was the second speaker for the program. She shared her personal experiences of herself and her family going through the tragedies caused by cancer.
The program ended with prize distribution for the poster making competition where 3rd prize was secured by Ms. Anjali Soni, 2nd Prize by Ms. Meenu Kumari and 1st Prize by Mr. Mukesh Mahto.
Dr. Jyoti Deshmukh Principal SISTec-R and Prof. Kshitij Yugbodh Head of Mechanical Engineering Department presented mementos to the guests as a token of respect for taking out time from their busy schedule to be part of this awareness program.
