Telephone Call between Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and H.E. Charles Michel, President of the European Council

Prime Minister received a call today from H.E. Charles Michel, President of European Council.

Prime Minister warmly congratulated Mr. Michel on assumption of the office of the President of the European Council and conveyed best wishes for a successful tenure. Prime Minister expressed confidence that India-EU partnership will be further strengthened under the leadership of Mr. Michel.

Recalling his meeting with Mr. Michel in New York on the sidelines of UNGA earlier this year, PM mentioned that India was committed to making progress on issues of mutual interest, including BTIA, Connectivity Partnership, Europol, Euroatom, Counter Terrorism, Climate Change, etc.

Delhi Postal Circle makes special arrangements for acceptance of X-Mas/New Year Greetings Mail

Delhi Postal Circle has made special arrangements for acceptance of X-Mas/New Year Greetings Mail at 34 Post Offices and 2 RMS Offices at Railway Stations as given below from 18.12.2019 to 07.01.2020. Separate reception counters are being set up at these Post Offices. Members of public are Welcome to post their X-Mas/New Year Greetings Mail at these collection centers. These centers are made available in addition to the existing centres already functioning.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh reviews passing out parade of Indian Military Academy, Dehradun

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh reviewed the passing out parade ofIndian Military Academy (IMA), Dehradun today where 377 gentlemen cadets (GCs) of 145 Regular Course, 128 Technical Graduate Course, including 71 GCs from ten friendly countries passed out from the portals of the Academy.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh wished all the GCs on the Armed Forces Flag Day and said, “Today, the whole country is celebrating Armed Forces Flag Day. Therefore, you should also take oath that in the coming times to come you will keep the flag of our Armed Force high at all costs and circumstances.”

Shri Rajnath Singh said, “Pakistan, has made terrorism its state policy. Our neighbour has lost four times in direct fights; however, it is still not shying away from its sinister design.”The whole world is aware it was Pakistan where mastermind of 9/11 attacks and head of Al Qaida was found there. The whole world also aware that terrorists of Lashkar-e-Toiba, who are perpetrators of 26/11, are sitting there in Pakistan, he added.

Exhorting the GCs the Raksha Mantri said, “Therefore, you have to be prepare yourself to fight terrorism bravely. Our government has adopted a multi-pronged strategy against terrorism, which has led to some positive results.”The GCs displayed tremendous enthusiasm, vigour and zeal, and put up an excellent show, marching to Military tunes of ‘Col Bogey’, ‘Sare Jahan Se Achha’ and ‘Kadam KadamBadhayeJa’ with pride and élan.

Congratulating the GCs on successful completion of their training at IMA, Raksha Mantri complimented all GCs for the excellent parade, immaculate turnout as well as the crisp and energetic drill movements indicating high standards of training and discipline imbibed by the young leaders.

Shri Rajnath Singhalso complimented the 71 Gentlemen Cadets from friendly counties, who have been in India and at IMA for one year. He said “I am sure, you as ambassadors of your country will carry back a treasure of good memories of the place and training with you and will cherish them for a lifetime. The IMA has imparted training to you which will form the bedrock for your growth both professionally and personally and will definitely strengthen the ties between our countries”.

While addressing the Passing out Course, Shri Rajnath Singh congratulate the GCs on their being commissioned into the Indian Army in service of our great nation. He conveyed, that the country is indeed proud of each one of them who shall be Passing out from the portals of IMA and take on the challenges that will require many sacrifices, trials and tribulations. He reminded them to always keep in mind the Chetwode Motto and the Honour Code while dealing with the formidable task of being military leaders of the future. He also praised the parents of the passing out course who had motivated their wards for having chosen such a Noble Profession to serve India and stand between any threat that our country might be required to counter.

Shri Rajnath Singh also announced that IMA will soon get two underpasses. These would cost 42.32 crore. These underpasses will enhance the security of IMA and be convenient for general public.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh also presented the coveted award of the Sword of Honour and Gold Medal was presented to Academy Under Officer Vinay Vilas Garad. Silver Medal for the Gentleman Cadet standing Second in the Order of Merit was presented to Senior Under Officer Peekendra Singh.Chief of Army Staff Banner was awarded to Keren Coy for standing Overall First amongst 16 companies for the Autumn Term 2019.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh flags off massive campaign against single use plastic

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh flagged off special plogging awareness drive rally in Delhi Cantt as part of Swachhta Pakhwada to create awareness against single use plastic in the country. He himself take part in the event by picking waste material from the area.More than 3,000 people, including schoolchildren participated in the plogging and collected sizeable single use plastic waste.

Raksha Mantri said Mahatma Gandhi had equated spitting with crime.He further said that Mahatma Gandhi raised an army of satyagrahis, the same way Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi raised the army swachhagrahis. In a very short span of time Swachh Bharat has become a mission. More than 700 districts in the country have become Open Defecation Free (ODF). Ten crore sixty lakh toilets have been made in the country. Now, it is the turn of reducing the single use plastic. Shri Rajnath Singh appealed, “Let us create an awareness against the use of single use plastic.”

Raksha Mantri appreciated nukkad natak, performed by a local theatre group. He also administered Swachhta pledge to the people present in the event. The events have been conducted towards spreading awareness against the ill-effect of plastic on environment, bring about behavioural change with respect to sanitation and to give up use of plastic including carry bags, plastic cutlery, plastic water bottles, etc.

Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Shripad Naik appealed the people present at the event to stop using single use plastic and said, “If people start carrying bags with them, use of single use plastic may gradually reduce. By doing this we will be able to save our future generations from environment related problems.” He also urged people to use environment friendly things instead of plastic.

Ministry of Defence is organisinga massive plogging programme at more than 400 locationsthroughout the countrytoday. All the three services, Indian Coast Guard, Defence Public Sector Undertakings, Ordnance Factory Board (OFB), Cantonment boards, national Cadet Corps (NCC), Boarder Road Organisation (BRO) and various other defence establishments at different locationsorganised similar such events throughout the country.

The Army cleaned up waste at 17 locations across the country right from Siachen to Jaisalmer and Bhuj to Bairengte (Mizoram). Similarly, Indian Navy cleaned up waste at 30 locations from Mumbai to Karwar (Karnataka) and Kolkata to Vishakapatnam. Indian Air Force also cleaned up waste at 150 locations from Hindon to Upper Shillong (Meghalaya) and Nagpur to Trivandrum. Apart from the three services, ICG did the exercise in its 47 locations, Cantonment Boards 62 locations, NCC 18 locations, Sainik Schools 31 locations, BRO 18 locations, Comptroller General of Defence Accounts 20 locationsacross the country.

The aim of this massive exercise is to raise awareness in the society to collect plastic waste and make the surroundings clean. The slogan for this event is ‘Plastic Se Raksha – Swachhata Hi Suraksha’.Swachhta anthem played in all the events across the country. Community awareness programmes such as nukkad nataks, debates, quizzes, painting competitions among students etc. will also be organised.

Dr. Jitendra Singh says Prime Minister has described Northeast as a new engine of a New India.

The Union Minister of State (IC) for Development of Northeastern Region ( DoNER), Minister of State in Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel, Pension and Public Grievances, Atomic Energy < Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh today attended the ongoing Hornbill festival at Kisama near state capital Kohima. Addressing a colourful cultural programme , Dr. Jitendra Singh said Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given the highest priority to Northeast and to state like Nagaland in the last five years. While stating that Prime Minister Modi visited Northeast more than 30 times in five years , Dr. Singh said the Prime Minister has described Northeast as new engine of New India. He said because of the Prime Minister’s personal indulgence and personal outreach, northeastern culture, food, dance and music have reached every part of the country. While stating that Nagaland has become the ambassador of Northeast for the rest of India through the medium of Hornbill festival, Dr. Singh said today the festival has become a new torch bearer of a new cultural journey of northeast which is going to unite entire India with a message from a state like Nagaland. Earlier, Union Minister of State (IC) for Youth Affairs < Sports and Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, Shri KirenRijijualso attended the ongoing Hornbill festival. Addressing a cultural programme at Kisama , he said the Prime Minister of India is giving special emphasis for Northeastern Region and for the Naga people . He said the Act East Policy is taking shape. Shri Rijiju added that basic infrastructure, which is the foundation for better development, is being laid and in the next few years we will see the result. Maintaining that Nagaland has the potential to become one of the hub for adventure activities, ShriRijiju said besides sports, his ministry wants to promote adventure activities in Nagaland to ensure that youth are engaged in gainful employment. Pointing out that Hornbill festival has become a symbol of Northeast India, the Minister also assured to extend help to promote indigenous sports of Northeast. Various Cultural troupe, dressed in their colourful traditional attires, performed songs and dances during the event. ***
