The Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari inaugurated the ‘Brigadier Mohd. Usman Memorial Function’ at Jhangar, Naoshera in Jammu & Kashmir today. The function was solemnized to commemorate the sacrifices of Brigadier Usman and other valiant soldiers who laid down their lives for saving their motherland in 1947-48 operations in Naoshera Sector.
Serene environment prevailed during the memorial function which included wreath laying by the Vice President, unveiling of the Bust of Brig. Usman, Interaction with war veterans of Naoshera Sector and troops deployed on LC in Naoshera Sector. The troops were overwhelmed by the occasion and vowed to continue defending Indian Frontiers with greater vigour and dedication. Lt. General P. C. Bhagwaj, Army Commander, Northern Command and Lt. General R. K. Swami, General Officer Commanding White Night Corps along with other dignities were present on the occasion.
The Vice President presented memento and shawl to the Bal Sainiks and Senior Citizens of Naoshera Region on the occasion. These include: Honorary Captian Shri Moti Ram, Naib Subedar Gyan Chand, Subedar Sita Ram, Hawaldar Baldev Singh, Subedar Major Dhyan Singh, Naib Subedar S. P Sahani, Shri Kali Das, Shri Mahendra Lal, Shri Basant Singh and Shri S N Randhawa. A large number of civilians also gathered to pay tributes to Brigadier Usman, the hero who saved Naoshera and reclaimed Jhangar from enemy’s hand.
