New Delhi, India, February 6, 2012: The world’s largest independent mobile video service, Vuclip, has announced the results of the first-ever annual ‘Clippie’ awards – its popular viewers’ choice awards to adjudge the best of mobile videos. In this first edition of the Clippie Awards, Vuclip had invited its viewers across US, India, Venezuela and rest of the world to vote for mobile videos in 18 different categories. People from over 200 countries cast their votes for two weeks ending December 31.
In a surprise twist, India’s perennial fixation for cricket took the global center stage when Virender Sehwag’s double ton in the 4th ODI against West Indies in Indore emerged not only as the leader in the Best Sports category in India, but also became the most voted mobile video anywhere in the world. It received more votes than any other video in as many as 18 categories worldwide including Hollywood, music, glamour, technology, funny videos, scandal/gossip and advertisements. Sehwag had slammed 219 runs off 149 balls, to score his first double century and the highest score by any individual in a one-day 50-over international match. Sachin Tendulkar is the only other Indian to have scored a double century in an ODI match. In the US, the mobile video of the ice hockey game between Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks was voted the most in the top sports category, in which Bruins emerged as the 2011 Stanley Cup champions after a gap of 39 dry years.
In the technology category, people voted iPhone 5 Concept Features video at the top, followed by BlackBerry Enterprising Minds.
In the strangest mobile video category, Indians voted more for a 46-hour-long smooch by a Thai couple touted as the longest kiss ever, compared to the mobile video of a two-headed snake. Jessica Leandra took away the title of the cheekiest mobile video for her photo-shoot, securing more votes than Silk Smitha’s steamy video in a polka-dotted swimming costume.
Mobile video of The Mario Fail was the most voted in the top funny category globally, while Kiddy Kolaveri sung by Sonu Nigam’s son, Nevaan, took the top spot in this category in India. The video of diaper-clad twin baby boys talking to each other was the leader in the top sentimental video category globally, and was liked by so many people that it ranked among the top 10 most voted videos across all categories worldwide. People voted the video of a mom cat hugging its sleeping baby kitten as the cutest video on mobile phones.
