5th Edition of Bangalore Nano on 6th & 7th December 2012

The Department of IT, BT and S&T, Government of Karnataka under the able guidance of Vision Group on Nanotechnology led by Prof. C.N.R. Rao, FRS, National Research Professor; Linus Pauling Research Professor; Honorary President, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) today briefed the Media on the run-up to the 5th edition of Bangalore Nano event. The event is scheduled on 6th and 7th of December 2012 at Hotel, The Lalit Ashok, Bangalore.

Bangalore Nano 2012 will feature an Exhibition and Conference Sessions addressed by internationally acclaimed Speakers and Experts discussing a range of issues pertaining to Research, Technology Development, Skills Requirement, Institutions Involved, Risks Issues, Regulatory & Governance Structure, Investment and Collaborations between Academia, R&D & Industry.

Bangalore Nano 2012 will also feature a Pre-Conference Tutorials which is scheduled on the 5th of December 2012 for the Delegates which will offer a quick preview on the Fundamentals to NanoFabrication - a major growth area in nanotechnology for India, followed by parallel Tracks focusing on Medicines; Biotech & Material Synthesis and Materials to Devices. The Conference Sessions of Bangalore Nano 2012 on 6th and 7th December will focus on Advanced Materials, Aerospace & Defence, Business Opportunities in Nanotechnology, Electronics & NEMS, Energy & Environment & Water Management / Solutions, Food & Agriculture and Healthcare & Medicine.

Bangalore Nano National Award will be presented to Prof. G.U. Kulkarni, Chemistry & Physics of Materials Unit and DST Unit on Nanoscience, JNCASR, at the Inauguration Function on 6th December 2012 for his tremendous contribution in the field of Nanotechnology. The selection was done by a Special Jury under the Chairmanship of Prof. C.N.R. Rao. The previous recipients of the Award have been Prof. C.N.R. Rao in 2007, Prof. Dipankar Chakravorty in 2008, Prof. Ajay K. Sood in 2009 and Dr. G. Sundararajan in 2011.

Several Nominations for the India Nanotech Innovation Award have been received for various sectors of Nanotechnology like Medicine; Electronics; Materials; Aerospace & Defence; Energy & Environment; Agriculture and Biotech by Organisations as well as individuals. The Award winners will be declared on Day 2 of Bangalore Nano 2012 during the Awards Function.

Malhotra Weikfield Foundation is an Educational Trust offering scholarships to meritorious Students. The Foundation will present 6 Awards to Young Researchers in the field of Nanotechnology selected by Prof. C.N.R. Rao and a Committee of Experts, during the Bangalore Nano Awards Function.

The Special Program "Nano for the Young" for Students from various Engineering, Medical & Biotech Colleges across Bangalore will also be featured in the event. Over 450+ Students are expected to attend this exciting Programme.

Bangalore Nano 2012 will feature a "Poster Session" providing a unique opportunity for Scientists and Researchers to share their Innovations and Research in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology with Industry, Research Institutes and Venture Capitalists. Over 110 Posters are expected to be displayed, out of which 3 Best Poster Displays will be awarded during the Awards Function.

This year’s event will also feature the programme "Research Industry Collaboration Hub" (RICH) offering unique partnering opportunities for showcasing innovations in Nanotechnology. RICH will facilitate podium presentations and one-to-one meetings for Emerging Entrepreneurs in Nanotechnology. 6 Emerging Companies will get the opportunity to make presentations on the commercial viability of their innovations.
