New Delhi, 27th February 2017: CNN-News18, India’s most awarded news channel, has once again been recognized for excellence in journalism at the Exchange4media News Broadcasting Awards 2016. Bhupendra Chaubey, Executive Editor, CNN-News18 has been awarded the Best Anchor – English for the primetime broadcast Big5@10.
A TV journalist since 2000, Bhupendra Chaubey is amongst the finest political journalists of his generation. In the highly competitive news television industry, Bhupendra has created a distinctive position for himself with his straightforward and fearless attitude. As a political journalist travelling across the length and breadth of the country, he has been popular for his ability to grasp things at a micro level and then present it on a macro level. He is one of the rare new-age journalists who not only cuts across all genres of news but also has adapted to the viewers’ changing news consumption pattern from Print to TV to Digital.
‘Big5@10’, the show for which Bhupendra has won the award, revolves around the idea of 5 news topics which are the big talking points of the day. Bhupendra breaks each story down – highlighting 5 facts on each story or raising 5 big questions relating to the same. The show is format agnostic and could entail a debate, chat, opinion, anchor take or face-off, depending on the story. The show also has the nation’s top most commentators as exclusive experts, who share their views and opinions with the viewers. The show has also done away with the routine of long headlines and introduced a new way to present the same with Bhupendra encapsulating the top 5 stories in 5 single words or hashtags.
Commenting on the achievement, Radhakrishnan Nair, Managing Editor, CNN-News18 said, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Bhupendra for his relentless efforts to bring forth the most credible news to the viewers. At CNN-News18, we believe in going out of the studio and bringing stories from the ground zero. Bhupendra is the personification of this philosophy who invigorates the whole team with his abundant and infectious energy.”
News18 India, the Hindi news channel of Network18, also won the Best Current Affairs Programme (Hindi) for its show Jannat. The documentary was an effort to present an unbiased view of the delicate and strife-torn areas of Kashmir valley.
